Our youth programs include Summer Surf Camp, Swim Leagues, Multiple Level Swim Skills, Swim Testing and Private Swim lessons.  We also offer adult programs such as Water Aerobics, Masters Swim, and Aqua Zumba.

The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA is looking for a YMCA Reads Program Assistant.  YMCA Reads is a reading intervention and mentoring program.  Location for work is at Turie T Small Elementary School in Daytona Beach.

Applicant must be friendly, customer service oriented, have excellent communication skills and love of people.  This program is designed for literacy for struggling readers.  YMCA READS uses proven, research-based tools to ignite the minds of these students whose teachers have said they are at risk for lifelong reading difficulties.

Summer Camp Counselors

DeLand Family YMCA

The DeLand Family YMCA is looking for Summer Day Camp Counselors to work with our YMCA kids.  Our summer counselors are responsible for achieving the goals and objectives of the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA by serving as mentor, guardian and protector of the children in the program with first emphasis being safety, then character development and fun.

Our summer counselors are positive role models who practice the YMCA character values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility) and perform all assigned duties with energy and enthusiasm.

Job specific functions include but are not limited to:

Work cooperatively with all day camp staff in planning and carrying out diverse program experiences.

Assume leadership of the group of participants assigned to his/her charge.  Mentor, plan, teach and uphold rules and safety standards associated with the YMCA.

Prepare needed materials and supplies for each day’s activities and manage supplies within the framework of a budget.

Take responsibility for the continuous cleanliness of the day camp areas and the safety of all equipment used in the program.

Remain constantly alert for problems affecting the health and safety of all participants, report all safety and risk problems and assist in correcting any problems as they occur.

Use good judgement under pressure, with the ability to make timely, sound, informed decisions.

There are training requirements for these positions.  All positions are part time and pay is $8.10 per hour.  Minimum age: 18.  HS/Equivalent.

We are looking for Group Exercise instructors for the Four Townes Family YMCA to lead Zumba, Silver Sneakers, and Spinning classes.  Guided by the mission of the YMCA, the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for leading group classes, providing excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness.

Job Specific Functions:

Building effective relationships with members and helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.

Keeping accurate class attendance records.

Assures that the group exercise studio is clean, presentable and clear of hazards at all times.

Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.

Prerequisites:

All instructors must be certified Group Exercise, CPR, and AED upon hire.  First Aid within 90 days of hire.

Minimum age: 18

Education:  HS or equivalent

Personal Trainer Four Townes Family YMCA

We are looking for an energetic and fun Personal Trainer to join our Four Townes (Deltona) Family YMCA team.  This candidate must have good sales experience to build their own clientele.  We are looking for someone who is able to create and implement Small Group Training classes along with the ability to gain one-on=one clientele.

Our 4500 square foot Wellness Center has recently received cardio upgrades and functional training equipment.  Shortly there will be a dedicated space for PT/Small Group Training.

We accept ACE, ASCM, NSCA, NASM PT certifications and CPR is a must.

Bilingual is preferred but not required.

The Southeast Volusia (Edgewater) Family YMCA is looking for an energetic, positive person to work in our wellness department.  Guided by the mission of the YMCA, the Wellness Staff is responsible for instructing and reinforcing proper strength training procedures and maintaining a safe workout environment for all members, participants, guests and staff.

The core functions of this position are:

To take personal responsibility for creating, building and enhancing relationships throughout the wellness area. Understand and instruct on the proper use of cardio and strength training equipment and free weights.  Instruct members and guests in strength training principles, procedures and exercise techniques.  Emphasize all components of wellness (warm-up, cardiovascular, strength, stretch, cool down). Promote the Wellness Center through personal example and member interaction.  Constantly observe the Wellness Center to ensure proper use of the equipment and enforce rules and policies for safety of the members, including proper cleaning of equipment after individual use. Assure that the wellness areas are clean, presentable and clear of hazards at all times.

Prerequisites:

Job Description

Title:          Boy’s Village Director

General Function: Under the supervision of the Executive Director the Boy’s Village Director is responsible for the supervision, safety and operations of the Boys Camp area. All cabin life aspects of the boy’s village are under their supervision.

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for cabin life issues that deal with campers (home sickness, behavior     issues, parents issues, check-in and check-out, daily schedule posted in cabin, etc.)
  2. Responsible for staff issues (attitude, morale, well-being, camper care etc.)
  3. Assist with cabin assignments for campers and staff
  4. Perform daily visual observation of all cabin counselors
  5. Assist with the selection of honor cabin
  6. Present awards on closing night
  7. Liaison between the health center and campers/counselors
  8. Supervise and evaluate cabin staff two times a season (mid-season and post)
  9. Assist in opening/closing day activities as needed
  10. Assist with staff training
  11. Assist in planning and organizing closing banquet for staff
  12. Assist in Evening Programs and all camp-wide activities
  13. Supervise campers during Free Time
  14. Participate in the Director of the Day
  15. Conduct announcements during meal times
  16. Assist with vespers
  17. Participate in performing nightly bed checks of campers and staff
  18. Create and be able to implement a “rainy day” plan along with the Leadership Team
  19. Attend all staff meetings
  20. Assume additional responsibilities as directed by camp directors
  21. Complete and maintain on an ongoing basis the designated areas for accreditation with the American Camp Association.
  22. Strive to ensure all cabin areas are safe, fun, and promote youth development and life learning skills.

General Function: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Land Activities Director is responsible for the oversight of all land program activities. They also work with the Waterfront Director and Leadership Team to plan and implement all camp-wide activities and evening programs.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in pre-camp set up of land activities
  2. Assist in pre-camp evaluation of land activity equipment and structures
  3. Supervise and manage all land program staff and areas. Report any needs or  issues to the Director
  4. Provide quality programming and progressive skill development for campers
  5. Schedule staff and campers into land program areas
  6. Perform daily visual observation of all land staff
  7. Responsible for maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment in all land program areas
  8. Responsible for readiness of all land activities at the beginning and close of each activity day
  9. Supervise and evaluate land staff three times a season (pre-season, mid-season, and post)
  10. Assist in opening/closing day activities as needed including Sunday night activity sign up
  11. Develop and maintain a Land Program Manual
  12. Assist with staff training (lost camper drills – land)
  13. Assist as needed with organization and supervision of the YMCA Camp Winona awards program
  14. Assist in planning and organizing closing banquet for staff
  15. Assist in organizing evening programs and camp-wide activities
  16. Supervise campers during Free Time
  17. Participate in the Director of the Day
  18. Conduct announcements during meal times
  19. Assist with Vespers
  20. Participate in performing nightly bed checks of campers and staff
  21. Create and be able to implement a “rainy day” plan along with the Waterfront Director and Leadership Team
  22. Attend all staff meetings
  23. Assume additional responsibilities as directed by camp directors
  24. Complete and maintain on an ongoing basis the designated areas for accreditation with the American Camp Association
  25. Strive to ensure all land programs areas are safe, fun, challenging, and promote youth development and skill progression
  26. Must be committed to carrying out the basic team purpose of YMCA Camp Winona and the Volusia Flagler YMCA

Pre-requisites:

  1. Minimum of 21 years of age

  3. Current First Aid and CPR
  4. Knowledge of High and Low Ropes and paintball
  5. Supervisory Experience
  6. Computer skills, including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Job Description

Title: Senior Counselor

General Function: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Senior Counselor lives in a cabin with 8 to 12 campers as their counselor and leader. They will provide leadership in one or more program areas and participate in the planning and implementation in all camp programming.

Essential Functions:

  1. Guide and direct a cabin group in a variety of camp activities
  2. Participate in staff training and all staff meetings
  3. Increase the campers’ understanding of the environment and God
  4. Live with a group of campers and help them to adjust to cabin life and each other
  5. Set a good example for your campers and fellow staff with your leadership
  6. Interpret and supervise safety and health regulations
  7. Take responsibility for the basic hygiene of the campers in your cabin
  8. Supervise the performance of the CIT assigned to your cabin
  9. Lead a cabin devotion each night
  10. Provide quality instruction of activity assigned
  11. Assist with inventory and upkeep of activity equipment
  12. Assist with set up and take down of activity
  13. Participate in rotation through activity areas, if required
  14. Assume and active role to incorporate nature, conservation and earth awareness.

Title: Teen Leadership Director

General Function: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Teen Leadership Director is responsible for the oversight of the LIT (Leaders In Training) program and the CIT (Counselor In Training) program preparing teens to become staff members. They also work with the Leadership Team to help plan and implement all camp-wide activities and evening programs.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide direction and role model positive behavior to all staff and Leaders/Counselors in Training
  2. Develop and implement programming for leadership development programs
  3. Work with Executive Director to develop and review curriculum for CIT training sessions
  4. Develop and maintain a CIT and LIT Manual
  5. Develop CIT daily schedules, including, but not limited to: Skill Class availability, CIT training sessions, CIT duties during free time
  6. Prepare staff for CIT evaluation process, follow-up to ensure completion, and review evaluations after completion
  7. Supervise and evaluate CIT and LIT participants each session
  8. Assist in leading the pre-summer staff training program
  9. Ability to serve and respond in a positive, respectful, timely, caring manner to a diverse background of user groups
