AfterSchool Childcare Counselors

The DeLand Family YMCA is looking for experienced childcare counselors for our afterschool program.  Our Afterschool Enrichment Program is part of the YMCA’s history of dedication to youth and children’s services. KidZone Childcare

We are hiring in our KidZone! We are looking for an energetic, positive individual to look after our Y kids while family works out. Applicants must be dependable, caring, love children and respond to their needs in a safe and effective manner.

Our child care programs provide a nurturing environment under the supervision of our qualified, professional staff.

Lifeguards

Job-Specific Functions:

Responsible for the safety of the aquatic facility patrons and the prevention of accidents and aquatic incidents. Scan zone vigilantly using the 10 x 10 rule and perform rescues and life-saving techniques when needed.  Render first aid as needed throughout the facility.

Be inspection ready in staff uniform, with a whistle, rescue tube and strap in ready position, pocket mask and in the proper location for programming.

Respond to members’ inquiries and concerns.

Assist in maintaining the overall general care and cleanliness of the aquatic facility. Keep drains clean, gutter free of debris, pool bottom brushed, and overall deck cleanliness.

Inspect aquatic facility on a daily basis and report any unsafe conditions and equipment.

Maintain and check water chemistry, daily weather conditions, and incidents and report to supervisor.

Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies in accordance with the emergency action plan (EAP), including whistle codes. Practice EAP regularly.  Understand specific responsibilities during a fire, hurricane, tornado, or other emergency situations.

Complete all assigned records and reports.

Participate in staff meetings and in-service training sessions.

Get substitution for shifts when unavailable.

Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Able to swim 500 yards, tread water for at least two minutes using legs only, surface dive head first and feet first and swim underwater at least 15 feet.

Able to sit for extended periods of time including in an elevated chair.

Sight – Observe all assigned zones of the water area and be ready to perform rescues.

Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment with background noise.

Communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively to emergency personnel over the phone and in person.

Aquatics Supervisor

We are looking for an Aquatics Supervisor at the DeLand Family YMCA.  Guided by the mission of the YMCA, the Supervisor is responsible for the administration and coordination of aquatics as well as marketing, promotion and innovative programming for our Aquatics Department.

Job Specific Functions:

Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.

Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.

Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools.  Secures and schedules pool facilities.  Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR training.

Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes and swim team practices and meets.

Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.

Assists in the hiring of new staff when needed.  Including new hire packet processing and administration of Drug and Background screening paperwork.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating physical stamina and agility to quickly reach a member/participant or situation to prevent harm.

Auditory and verbal abilities to give, receive and follow general instructions to ensure the safety and well-being of all members/participants.

Be able to work outside and be in a natural environment that requires being in the sun/heat.

Prerequisites:

BS or BA in related field

Custodian/Maintenance

The DeLand Family YMCA is looking for a part-time Custodian for Camp Winona The Custodian is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal.

Job-Specific Functions :

Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, and general cleaning.

Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.

Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.

Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

PREREQUISITES

Four Townes Family YMCA

The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA is looking for a YMCA Reads Program Assistant. YMCA Reads is a reading intervention and mentoring program.

Applicant must be friendly, customer service oriented, have excellent communication skills and love of people. This program is designed for literacy for struggling readers. YMCA READS uses proven, research-based tools to ignite the minds of these students whose teachers have said they are at risk for lifelong reading difficulties.

Holly Hill

We are looking for an energetic and fun Personal Trainer to join our Holly Hill Family YMCA team.  This candidate must have good sales experience to build their own clientele.  We are looking for someone who is able to create and implement Small Group Training classes along with the ability to gain one-on-one clientele.

Personal Trainer will lead a heart rate training program out of our Holly Hill branch.  They need previous experience in PT and Small Group Training models.  The candidate should have exceptional people skills and be able to command a room and group.

We accept ACE, ASCM, NSCA, NASM PT certifications and CPR is a must.

Volusia Flagler Family YMCA Association Office Positions

Facility Maintenance Director

The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA is seeking a proven staff leader; with combined hands-on technical skills in building and grounds maintenance to join our corporate office management team in Deland, Florida as the District Facility Director. The corporate office is located approximately 34 miles north of the central business district of Orlando and 23 miles west of renowned Daytona Beach. The Y is a cause-driven organization and is committed to improving the lives of all in Central Florida.

The incumbent will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, with a dotted line accountability to the President and CEO. S/he provides leadership to a staff team and is responsible for building and grounds maintenance of six YMCA facilities and one 55 acre resident camp. Six of these facilities have pools; three are year-round and three are seasonal. Prior related management and supervisory experience in the hospitality field, health club or related environment is highly preferred. This individual will manage day to day facility and property maintenance, including planning and risk management. S/he will develop a first class housekeeping/custodial schedule to ensure maximum comfort and cleanliness of YMCA locations at all times, as well develop and follow a preventative maintenance schedule. The incumbent must be “hands-on” and able to perform basic to complex maintenance duties to ensure the building equipment and property are in good operating condition, including conducting minor electrical and plumbing repairs, HVAC repairs, equipment repairs and painting.

This individual will be responsible for contracting with company approved outside vendors to perform major repairs as needed, and ensures applicable licensure is accurate. S/he must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide a high-level customer service experience; with the ability to interact with all levels of staff, leadership, members, volunteers and stakeholders to effectively collaborate and complete all work orders, special projects and other maintenance needs. S/he will work closely with aquatic staff leaders and Executive Directors on regularly scheduled pool inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order at all times. S/he monitors daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety standards, as well as identifies and resolves any safety maintenance concerns immediately. This individual will also be responsible for maintaining and ensuring compliance with required documentation of all MSDS manuals and all OSHA standards.

Job Requirements

To be successful, you must meet education, training and experience requirements, and you must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Education, Training and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in facility management or related field preferred.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in management of facilities, buildings and/or grounds required.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in staff supervision and leadership required.

Minimum 7 years of progressive experience and responsibility in building maintenance, grounds keeping and/or general repair required.

Building & grounds management experience overseeing multiple worksite locations / district responsibilities a plus.

Experience working effectively with external vendors and contractors; overseeing capital / construction projects required.

Additional training and/or certification in HVAC, plumbing or electrical desired.

Valid state issued driver’s license required. If out of state license, must obtain valid Florida driver license within 90 days of hire date.

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification a plus.

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required within 60 days of hire.
